The film features a star-studded cast of Assange, Stella Assange, Pamela Anderson, Edward Snowden, Naomi Klein, Chris Hedges, Jeremy Scahill, and Lady Gaga. Watermelon Pictures has secured the North American distribution rights and plans to release the film in theaters in early 2026, with an awards-qualifying run this year. This acquisition marks a significant step for the company, which is dedicated to amplifying underrepresented voices in the film industry. Founded by brothers Hamza Ali and Badie Ali, Watermelon Pictures is rooted in Palestinian culture and creativity, and has already made waves with the Oscar-shortlisted film 'From Ground Zero'. The company also launched a streaming service, Watermelon+, showcasing a diverse library of Palestinian and world cinema. The deal for 'The Six Billion Dollar Man' was negotiated by Munir Atalla, head of production and acquisitions at Watermelon Pictures, and WME Independent on behalf of the filmmakers. This partnership highlights Watermelon's commitment to supporting powerful storytelling and challenging the status quo, as Jarecki's film does with its exploration of Assange's fight for press freedom.
